In 1903, J. D. King and T. S. Graham built a wooden warehouse on the southwest corner of Dansing and Church Streets in Lake City. They operated the warehouse as King and Graham, but a fire destroyed the building a few years later.
The King brothers rebuilt the warehouse, this time in brick and much larger. The new building occupied the west side of the block of North Church Street between Dansing and Saul Streets. From then on, it became known as the "Big Brick."
In 1914, the Kings sold the warehouse to L. O. Holloway and G. R. Bowen, and it became the Holloway and Bowen Warehouse, as shown in the photograph above. After Holloway’s death in 1920, Bowen continued to operate the business under the name Bowen's Big Brick.
A later fire destroyed the building, but Bowen rebuilt the warehouse in time for the opening of the 1928 sales season, allowing the Big Brick to continue its role in Lake City’s tobacco trade.
