This is known as the “Singletary Block”. Erected sometime in 1910 by Henry Horace Singletary. This picture was taken sometime in 1911 or 1912. On the top floor of the two-story building at that time was M. A.Woods Dentistry; below was Gaddy’s Drug Store. Directly to the left was Howles Grocery and after that a Millinery Store (Women’s Clothing).
After World War II, a small triangular storefront sat between Howles Grocery and Gaddy’s Drug and became Mr. Joe McDaniels' barbershop. This shop had one barber chair and only a few places to sit and wait. It was a local hub for businessmen and townsfolk.
The buildings still stand today! They are the current home to Credit Central, All Quality Masonry, Oliva’s Bridal, and NDC Photography.
